Trio Brasil, initiated by bossa lover Raoul Cyr, was created in 2013.

The three multi-instrumentalist musicians who make up this group are from the Laurentians; They have been active for nearly thirty years on the Quebec music scene in styles as varied as: jazz, classical, world music and pop.

They have worked together since the 1980s, in multiple formations:

WITHOUT LEGEND (original jazz) SCENE WIND QUARTET (classical and world) AVELADEEN (celtic-world), TRIO MUNDO (world). Here they put their long experience and their various influences at the service of this unifying project which unites their common passions, festive and sensual Brazilian music.

Biography of the artists

Raoul Cyr / Trio Brasil / Mosaiculture productions

RAOUL CYR

A graduate in trombone from the Conservatory of Music of Quebec in Montreal, RAOUL CYR has worked as a professional musician and teacher since 1975. He has played and taught guitar for more than four decades. In 2000, he added the flugelhorn to his range, which also includes percussion.

He has worked with symphony orchestras (Conservatoire de Trois-Rivières and Laval), chamber music ensembles, jazz groups and Brazilian groups with whom he has given more than 1,200 shows including 12 participations in the International Festival of Montreal jazz. His music took him to Morocco, the Bahamas, the Toronto and Winnipeg Folklore Festivals as well as throughout Quebec.

From 2001 to 2004 he presented a series of conference concerts entitled “The history of jazz and trends in current jazz.”

In 1999, he founded the Scène Wind Quartet, with which he  records two albums: in 2002; the disc “CHRISTMAS AROUND THE WORLD” and in 2004  “IMPRESSIONS DIAPHANES”, broadcast several times on the cultural channel ESPACE MUSIQUE of Radio-Canada and on  CJPX.

He is also part of the Celtic-world quartet  AVELADEEN with Michel Dubeau. In 2006, the trio released a first CD entitled: “LA CITÉ DES VENTS; a second in December 2007: “When I see yver return” ; a third album entitled “BÉLÉNOS” in May 2008 and a fourth CD: “Bourrasque” in January 2011. The four CDs were broadcast on ESPACE MUSIQUE (Radio-Canada). Aveladeen has performed nearly 200 shows since its founding. In addition to these two projects, since the summer of 2013, Raoul Cyr has been at the head of TRIO BRASIL dedicated to bossa-nova and samba music; Richard Leduc (flute, sax and piano) as well as Bernard Ouellette (percussion) complete this ensemble. An eponymous album was launched in 2015. In spring 2013, he founded a stage-band orchestra of 17 musicians: L’R.C JAZZ ENSEMBLE whose members are all former students who have become professionals. Since 2014 he has presented the history of jazz (1920-1980) with this group. Since fall 2014 he has been playing percussion in the Celtic ensemble Keltic Pilgrim.

Richard Leduc / Trio Brasil / Les Productions Mosaiculture

RICHARD LEDUC

A graduate in music from the University of Montreal, as well as the University of Quebec, Richard Leduc made himself known as a musician, arranger and producer for Gerry Boulet and his album  RENDEZ-VOUS DOUX. He was also a conductor on tour with the artist Breen Leboeuf.

He has multiple interests, ranging from Bigband style, to rock, to world music. Here he returns to his roots by participating in the TRIO BRASIL as a saxophonist, flautist and pianist.

He wrote several original pieces of music during the 1990s. Documentaries and television series for children are among his achievements, but his writing projects are today oriented more towards world music with the  TRIO BRASIL and the SCENE WIND QUARTET as well as ensemble music with the groups he leads in secondary schools.

Bernard Ouellette / Trio Brasil / Les Productions Mosaiculture

Bernard Ouellette

Multi-instrumentalist singer (percussion, drums, guitar, keyboards) self-taught songwriter and arranger, Bernard Ouellette has been a member of the group AVELADEEN since the summer of 2008. He is also lead singer and composer of the progressive rock group Kaos Moon, which he founded it in 1984. The group's first album: After the Storm was distributed in 11 countries (Kosak Record) and generated a tour of 60 shows in Quebec. Kaos Moon's second album: Circle of Madness is distributed in 44 countries by Unicorn record. The group produces a third CD. In 2014. Bernard Ouellette participates in multiple projects in all musical styles; he notably worked as a percussionist-drummer with the group Hamadryad during their last European tour: (France, Luxembourg, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland) in 2007. Bernard Ouellette is also CEO and sound engineer of Studio Amadeus and Amadeus Son -Light (Berger Group). In this capacity, he has produced no less than twenty albums and more than a hundred albums have been produced by Amadeus. He is Chief Sound Engineer for the Mondial des Cultures in Drummondville (2008-2009) as well as for Nuits D'Afrique (Montreal 2008-2009). His work as a producer and sound engineer has been recognized by the following distinctions: Provost , Lachapelle, Jazz Album of the year 2000 and Crampe en masse, Roule-toi par terre, humor album of the year 2001. His name appears on AVELADEEN's four CDs as sound engineer and percussionist -composer-arranger. He is a percussionist and composer in TRIO BRASIL.
